knowing Huzir Sulaiman..





Huzir Sulaiman was born in year 1973 in Malaysia. Huzir Sulaiman director, actor, and writer. He is one of Malaysia's leading dramatist, acclaimed for his vibrant, inventive use of language and incisive insight into human behavior in general and Asia psyche in particular. He is currently live in Singapore.

Huzir Sulaiman married with Claire Wong, a Malaysia born Singapore stage actress. She also a film actress, writer, and director. She is a qualified lawyer. She also had a Master of Fine Arts in theatre at Columbia University in New York.  Huzir's father, Haji Sulaiman Abdullah was a Tamil Brahmin who later converted to Islam. Sulaiman is a veteran lawyer who served as Malaysian Bar Council president. Huzir's mother, Hajjah Mehrun Siraj has served as a professor, lawyer, consultant for United Nations agencies, NGO activists and a Commissioner with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia.

Huzir's plays often charged with dark humour, political satire,and surrealistic twists. Surrealistic based on dictionary is having features typical or reminiscent of those depicted in surrealistic painting or drawing. The meaning is having a character like a surrealism which is a style of art and literature developed principally in 20th century, stressing the subconscious or non rational significance of imagery arrived at by automatism or exploitation of chance effects, unexpected juxtapositions.

Huzir Sulaiman is best known for his works 'Atomic Jaya', 'The Smell of Lamguage', 'Hip-Hopera' the Musica, 'Notes on Life and Love and Painting', 'Election Day', 'Those Four Sisters Fernandez', 'Occupation', and ' Whatever That Is' which have been published in his collection of 'Eight Plays' by Silverfish Books. He also contribute his articles to The Star.
